Friday, the 4th of October marks the beginning of Oktoberfest Brisbane 2019 and of course ‘Anzapfen’ – a word the Germans created for tapping into the first keg of this iconic celebration. What began in Munich as a wedding celebration over 100 years ago, has quickly become one of the world’s best known and celebrated festivals, attracting 450 million people to view Munich’s Lord Mayor tapping the first keg of beer and offering the first Stein to the Head of State, announcing “O’zapft is” – “it’s tapped”.

Quirk kicks off the two-weekend Oktoberfest Brisbane celebration! We have been privileged to have Lord Mayor Graham Quirk tap the first keg in 2008 and look forward to welcoming him back again this year to kick off Oktoberfest Brisbane for the 12th time in 2019!
Oktoberfest Brisbane offers two fun-packed weekends. Bring your family and friends to the Brisbane Showgrounds over the next two weekends and experience the atmosphere and spectacle that is Oktoberfest Brisbane. See the Brisbane Showgrounds transformed into a mini Bavaria, showcasing some of Germany’s finest. Indulge in the vast selection of food including some of the classics, Bratwurst, Pork Knuckle, Schnitzel or Cakes, not to forget the specially-brewed German beers. It makes for a truly delectable cultural experience!
Entertain your senses with yodeller Heidi, Alpenrosen Dance Group, and our very own Bavarian Oompah band, but don’t forget to get front row seats to our coveted competitions, Beardmeister and Bavarian Strongmen.
