Art and Language are a must!

Have you ever tried seeing a piece of art through the artist’s eye or ear? Have you ever tried to understand a nation’s culture simply by speaking the country’s language?

Get excited for another great night of insights into the world of Art and Bilingualism this German Week. We thrive to combine performance, exhibition and panel discussions exploring the progression of AI and its application in language learning and art, its relevance for other disciplines such as design and technology, and the influence of artists and language experts. Many creative pioneers come from the German-speaking world or are heavily influenced by it and some contemporary leaders in the field live and work right here in Brisbane. Working with a selection of these experts, this will be a German Creative Arts Experience that will inspire your senses.

For last year’s Brisbane German Week Language & Arts event, we were joined by a panel of experts in creativity, language and technology. The discussion highlighted key takeaways from the latest research on what AI means for work, education and policy in Australia and elsewhere, and invite practising creatives to share their experience. The panel was accompanied by an exhibition of artworks illustrating sites that speak to Brisbane’s historical German connections.

Since the release of Chat GPT in November 2022, the power and potential of Artificial Intelligence has become more apparent than ever. In The Atlantic magazine’s “Breakthroughs of the Year” for 2022, Derek Thompson included ChatGPT as part of “the generative-AI eruption” that “may change our mind about how we work, how we think, and what human creativity is”. Meanwhile, with the emergence of consumer-grade AI image generation services, discussion and controversy have also renewed over the legality and ethics of AI-generated art, and the potential repercussions for artists.

This year we are again fortunate to be hosted by Queensland AI Hub for this exploration of new developments, opportunities and challenges associated with language, creative arts and AI (Artificial Intelligence).
