UQ German Club 10th Anniversary Gala and UQ German Inaugural Alumni Dinner

Hosted by UQ German Club in conjunction with The University of Queensland

The University of Queensland German Club, or Deutscher Klub UQ, is a student run society that promotes German language and culture at UQ. Founded in March 2012, it is now celebrating its 10th year and in terms of members and activities, is one of the most essential German-affiliated communities in Brisbane with 250+ current members, 3000+ alumni and 150+ affiliated student organisations. The club’s legacy reaches much further back though through the UQ German Society (1972-2008), established fifty years ago!

The UQGC is well-placed within the university based at the St Lucia campus. The University of Queensland is also celebrating over 110 years of teaching and learning German for degree purposes through the School of Languages and Cultures since 1911 and German has also been offered to the general public at the Institute of Modern Languages since 1934.

These are compelling reasons to look back on a rich history and to look forward to explore the many opportunities that are emerging when young talent, sound language education and a vibrant community come together.

We are delighted that the gala celebration of the UQ German Club is embedded in Brisbane German Week 2022 and is tentatively planned to take place at the beautiful Customs House (see picture). We very much hope you will be able to join us for an evening that promises to bring the entire German higher education community together with first-hand reflections, networking, recognition awards and live performances plus the chance to meet our next generation of potential German-Australian ambassadors.
